4K for Cancer is a program of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. The Ulman Cancer Fund is a nonprofit organization.
What is it?
I'll be running with a team of 23 college aged students in the summer of 2018, covering 4,000+ miles from San Francisco to New York in 49 days (June 17-August 4).
Each runner runs 6-16 miles each day. We will get a rest day every 3-6 days and this is when we will participate in service events.
Along the run we are hosted by members of the community (churches, schools, gyms, etc.) to have a place to sleep. We also seek out donations for food and get most of it provided along the way. By doing this, it allows all of the money we raise to go into the cancer fund instead of being spent on us!
Fundraising and Service/Education
We raise funds and awareness for young adult cancer. Each individual runner raises a minimum of $4,500 to help support direct services to young adults impacted by cancer and their families. On our journey we will participate in service and education events to provide support to cancer patients, deliver scholarships to young adults, and learn more about cancer treatment.
Where the money goes:
87% programmatic
9% fundraising expense
4% management and administrative expenses
How the money supports 4K's mission:
Patient navigation programs, chemo care bags, support groups and events, scholarships, community service, education, and outreach, UCF house, No Way! It Can't Be guidebook for young adults facing cancer, and cancer to 5k training program.
